Steph Curry on the “Refs Grading System” and Adam Silver’s response

Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry expressed interest in a public referee grading system. In response, Adam Silver stated that no one wants their job performance records made public.
“I’d want to see the refs grading system probably. Let that be more public, the same way our stats are shown. Not to make their job any harder, because it’s really hard job, but it would be interesting from the fan and player perspective to know why the ref is great and how they grade him,” Curry said via New York Basketball.
Adam Silver addressed transparency with fans and players regarding referee evaluations, stating that no one would want their job performance records made public.
“The officials have their own union… human resources issues, nobody necessarily wants to have their employment record published,” Silver responded. “That’s not the way the world works in most cases.”
Silver’s remarks emphasize the NBA’s stance on protecting its officials from excessive scrutiny while acknowledging that there is an internal evaluation system in place. The league currently grades referees after every game, assessing their calls and decisions, but this information is kept within the NBA’s internal review system.
