The Baltimore Orioles aim to take the next step in the 2025 season after consecutive early playoff exits in the Wild Card and ALDS. A key player to watch is young talent Jackson Holliday, who showed promising improvement as the season progressed.

Jackson Holliday is already a dynamic, five-tool player, but he’s using spring training as an opportunity to further refine his game. With encouragement from the team, he has been working on incorporating bunting into his skill set.

“I’ve been working on it,” Holliday said. “Not in games, but hopefully soon.”

The Orioles’ infielder has impressive speed, and adding the ability to bunt for infield hits would complement his power and contact-hitting skills. Last season, Holliday posted a .189 batting average with five home runs in 190 at-bats but showed promising signs of improvement late in the year, particularly in August and September.

Holliday has also been adapting to second base, a challenge he faced last spring. However, heading into the 2025 season, he appears much more comfortable in the role.

“He just had an offseason to prepare for it last year, and learning a new position can be a lot,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “With a full season and another offseason under his belt, he feels much more at ease.”

“I think just being crisp and sharp,” said Holliday, who started 52 games at second base. “Watching the league, everything is so clean and precise. That’s something I’ve been focusing on, along with being as quick as possible on double-play feeds—just getting the ball to Gunnar [Henderson] as fast as I can and letting him do his thing.”

The Orioles will be counting on Holliday in multiple ways this season, and if he can add bunting to his skill set, it will only enhance his overall game.
