As the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 7, St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington is reportedly drawing interest from the Edmonton Oilers. Recent rumors suggest the Oilers are looking to bolster their goaltending options, with Binnington being a strong candidate alongside Anaheim Ducks’ John Gibson.

Binnington’s performance for Team Canada in the recent 4 Nations Face-Off has increased his value, and the Blues are reportedly open to trading some of their core players. TSN reporter Darren Dreger mentioned on The Ray & Dregs Podcast that a club executive, not affiliated with the Blues, speculated that the likelihood of Blues GM Doug Armstrong capitalizing on Binnington’s success is extremely high, estimating a 99.9% chance.

The Oilers, who reached the Stanley Cup final last season but fell to the Florida Panthers, are currently performing well this season with a record of 34 wins, 19 losses, and 4 overtime losses.

Jordan Binnington Enjoying a Stellar Season

Jordan Binnington showcased his skills during the 4 Nations Face-Off, helping Team Canada secure victory, particularly with a strong performance against Team USA. He has two years remaining on his contract, which includes a modified no-trade clause that limits trades to 18 teams, potentially impacting his future.

The Blues are considering trading the experienced goaltender due to the impressive play of young goalie Joel Hoffer, who has been performing well for the team. Additionally, they have AHL goalie Colten Ellis, who they hope to give an opportunity at the NHL level.

Although the Blues are facing a challenging season with a record of 26 wins, 26 losses, and 6 overtime losses, Binnington’s contributions have not been the issue. He has secured 16 wins and three shutouts this season, with a save percentage of .898.

In his NHL career, Binnington has played in 320 games, achieving a lifetime save percentage of .907 and a total of 161 wins. He has been with the Blues since the 2015-16 season.
